Former World Bank Innovator Dennis Whittle (cont) The Development Marketplace is a popular competition that awards financial grants to individuals around the world with innovative ideas aimed at
fighting poverty. The Denali Commission recently designated $275,000 to launch a similar competition in Alaska this year that will focus on generating better economic opportunities for rural Alaska Native artists. Partners
in the new project include the Alaska Native Arts Foundation and the State of Alaska’s Department of Community and Economic Development.
This session is sure to offer an inside view on the magic of this model and will help set the stage for upcoming efforts to devise an Alaska program that rewards innovation in fighting rural poverty.
Dennis Whittle is the CEO of GlobalGiving, a new web-based platform, which is open anytime, everyday, to all institutions, companies and individuals in the world, to facilitate social and economic investments in developing
countries.
